Bertha Benz: The Journey That Changed Everything

A witch! A witch is coming! A witch! Stay with your brother. Hello? Is the pharmacist in here? I’m looking for ten litres of ligroin. You won’t get those stains out of that dress. Better buy a new one. It’s not for my dress. It’s for my carriage. Are you trying to poison your horses? Do you have ten litres or not?

The idea that they would immediately accuse her of witchcraft is a bit absurd for the 1880's… In Europe the belief in witchcraft had almost completely died out by the end of the 1730's due to new enlightenment ideas of the early 1700's that made a mockery of these beliefs. And in some countries such as the UK it was even illegal to accuse someone of witchcraft by 1735.

Witchcraft is a facet 1500's and 1600's. Not of the 19th century.

    In English, serious ??

    The Historical background is wrong ! “ a witch a witch “ ?? We are not in the 1700s !! We’re in the1880!!

The place she refueled is wrong: The Pharmacy still exists in Wiesloch near Heidelberg and it is situated at a pretty steep street and a big market place going uphill.
Today a statue is marking the place.

I lived in the neighbour-town for more than 25 years.

I work full time as a Brand Ambassador at Mercedes Benz. I’m also a filmmaker who has a passion for the art of storytelling! Please, if the story of Bertha Benz and Carl Benz is being considered in becoming a feature film, I would be elated to be apart of the process in some kind of way! I’m a writer, director, cinematographer, and actor.

Way to describe a strong woman without jumping on the feminist bandwagon (they have their own wagon, on another league). Nothing like that Gillette crap.

Technically, Bertha is driving a Benz, not a Merc…. it's 1888, about 30 years before merging with Daimler to form Mercedes-Benz. But Gottlieb Daimler invented the first motorcycle around the same time. Although the Karl & Bertha Benz and Gottlieb Daimler probably never met in real life, they have two epic origin stories, and their combined legacy of Mercedes-Benz is incredible. P.S. "Mercedes" is Daimler Corps most famous car named after an engineer's 10 year old daughter…. that's why the cars are called that instead of Daimler-Benz.

Who is the actress playing Bertha? I'm currently reading a book that has Bertha as a minor character, and the series of books of which it is a part has been optioned for TV.

Mercedes-Benz could consider building a new series/models of cars called "Bertha"; if only to popularize the history and inspire. On the second thought, it would be way too much pressure to create something so perfect that would deserve such name. Maybe that is why we do not have that to this day. Can't wait to see the full movie. Thank you!

Warum auf Englisch ? Deutsch sollte es sein und von mir aus mit Untertitel für die, die eine andere Sprache verstehen. Mercedes Schafft sich ab würde Thilo Sarrazin sagen !

Anyone else mystified by how Mercedes-Benz had such an early start on the automobile game and yet they are no where near the top?

The One Thing I Love About Mercedes-Benz is that they Make Absolutely Amazing and luxurious cars and the Second Thing I Love About Them is That They Always Reply To Their Fans 😉

This is how you create a female heroin. No need to take a man's role like Bond, don't need to stomp on men. My father is an auto mechanic since the 60s. He had a Mercedes 300D for years and he has always been a Mercedes guy. I live in Portugal, so Mercedes has a hell of a fan base here because of Taxi cabs and Presidential cars. Maybe it's time for me to drive one too.
