This “Aviation Expert” Ed Booth guy is an idiot. If you listen to to the ATC communications, he would know N72EX was put in a holding pattern due to a go-around at Burbank and a Citation on a 9 mile final. For him to say this is indicative of a control system problem makes me question how much an expert he is.

Guys… before you start spouting off these unprofessional opinions as “news” do your jobs. You’re way off. The NTSB will confirm this later on but it’s clear that this is pilot error. It’s a phenomenon called “scud running.” A little advice… please look that up for your own sake. Deteriorating weather conditions were prevalent along the route and the pilot painted himself and the rest of them into a corner… he got into a bad spot (in pretty high and rough terrain FYI) and either lost control or flew under control into the hillside.
Please stop trying to interpret “flight data” yourselves. For one, the “multiple loops” the helicopter was doing before entering Burbank’s airspace was because Burbank (KBUR) tower directed him to hold before entering the area due to multiple aircraft on IFR flight plans that needed servicing before him, as he was flying what’s called “special VFR”. (If you want to know about that, look that up. There’s plenty of info easily accessible)
There was likely NOTHING wrong with the aircraft. This was probably a very typical case of “get-there-itis” where someone needs to be somewhere (especially a high profile person etc) and Pilot goes against better judgement and attempts a flight he / she would not normally attempt due to external pressures.
In the future, please try and do your jobs and don’t race to be the first to report on things to get your clicks. This false speculation has real world consequences for those of us in the aviation world. Public perception of general aviation and flying in general can be greatly swayed by the way your organizations do (or in this case, don’t do) their jobs.

Why dont they talk about parachutes? Why no one was seen jump off the helicopter with parachutes? If its going down hard they should of had parachutes! 😔

Where was Koby's wife voice in all of this? Why did she approve of letting her child fly in such dangerous conditions? Perhaps she didn't approve but had to listen to the money master.

High paying pilot jobs are very competitive. You wonder if the pilot had his doubts but didn't want to disappoint his boss. Maybe he was pressured to make the flight. All speculation, but you never know.

Repeating the reason why the chopper was going in tight turns when the last 30 people did the same MAKES YOU AN IDIOT.
ALSO, you are all wrong. Copying the person below you doesnt make you right.
I dont feel bad for him. I do for any children, however god forbid he has to deal with the daily woes of life like traffic (Ever heard od leaving early)like the commoners. He is responsible for the deaths in that crash regardless of the reason it went down. If a girl can go to prison for texting someone and telling them to kill their self he should be convicted post death with multiple capable murder. He blew thousands every week on chopper travel rather than driving, yet those tens of thousands, he could have feed homeless Vets, children, and disabled, however …. nope shaving off some time driving take priority.

Given the weather conditions and the pilots extensive experience, Kobe and the passengers should still be alive.

I love kobe but why was he even in a helicopter going to his daughters basketball game ? That's kinda doing to much in my opinion even if the traffic was heavy i would rather have my daughter in a car before a helicopter js

He’s wrong , the helicopter didn’t impact quickly, eyewitness heard rotors where spinning slowly and when impact happened no explosion or flying debris, it hit like a thud sound, Rotors were not spinning when it hit ground, if they were, they were barley spinning, also you could hear the crunch of fiberglass and metal, there’s a wrong picture being created here

Search for "Witness Describes What He Heard Before Kobe Bryant Helicopter Crash".
The helicopter was in dense fog and flying at about 5 mph right into the mountain. I would say that the 13 million dollar helicopter didn't have a GPS Nav system on it. My 172 had one.

If you listen to audio from ATC, he requests flying down to highway 101 and follow that towards SoCal hence the special visual flight rules, he started following 101 and the clouds and fog became so dense that he briefly thought las Vergenes road was 101, when he then realized he was following the wrong road made a left turn and accelerated nose down attitude which may explain the drop in altitude (at that height even 200 foot drop is a lot) and then realized that he was way too low and tried to recover but at that speed it was too late.
My take is that this may have been controlled flight into terrain

The figure 8s were a holding pattern The were several planes landing and was on hold for about 15 minutes the allowed to fly north of the airport around to Van Nuys to head toward 101.

the helicopter was circling waiting for aviation control to tell it what to do the fog was too heavy for it to move around once he got directions from the tower he began to move again when he hit the hill the propellers grab the hill and pulled the helicopter alongside the hill until it crashed you can see the propeller marks carved into the hill on the crash site

Like others have said, the circling was part of a holding pattern directed by ATC because a Citation was coming in. Just another example of media trying to start sht, or as Trump says so eloquently, "fake news."

Not unusual to be in a holding pattern..this guy sounds like a shyster lawyer trying to blame helicopter or avionics. What happened , pilot error , flying in bad weather, and the pilot couldnt see where he was going. He tried to make a u turn but the u turn aimed him at a mountain he couldnt see and he slammed into it

Wrong news. The flight was on hold for 15 minutes because the traffic controller had told the pilot that there is some IFR flight flying out of the Van Nuys airport and they have to hold during the hold the pilot had just circled multiple times just to be on air and wait. The hold and wait for 15 minutes before Kobes pilot was given clearance to head to Van Nuys Airport

The only thing that is odd is why the pilot nosed dived & descended rapidly into the crash In a matter of seconds. No mayday call no nothing of malfunction. Just straight down to the ground. Sounds like murder to me

He’s an expert pilot in fog apparently. Everybody knows when visibility is bad. You don’t speed up you go slower

I dno man maybe I’m crazy. I just don’t believe GOD works like that or this was an accident

L.A. Traffic sucks so I can see why he used a helicopter so often. Could afford it but yeah there's obviously risks there the more you use it considering the weather and how low those things fly. But just for the kids basketball practice. At 9am too. I woulda just left the day before and get a hotel or something but eh he flew it so many times, sometimes 6 days in a row so he probably figured it wouldnt be a problem

Those tight circles and spins he referred to was a holding pattern. An aircraft can't stop in mid air and wait, it must continue to fly in a holding pattern (hence, circles and loops). Nothing wrong with his avionics, he was told by ATC to hold for traffic.

I feel like the pilot made a very bad judgment call to fly in that weather to begin with and once he realized his mistake should have been man enough to say hey I messed up I made a mistake I CAN'T SEE UP HERE I need to land NOW…PERIOD! He was to busy trying to save face instead of admitting he couldn't see ssmmmhhh 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I believe that Bryant pressured his pilot to fly that day, because Kobe could have easily drove to that game. There really was no need to fly to the game that day.
