Hospitals concerned about proposed bill

. BECAUSE SOME OF THE COSTS THAT YOU SEE ON THAT BILL MIGHT SURPRISE YOU. YEAH. YOU MIGHT WONDER WHAT IS ALL THIS DETAIL? WHAT DOES THIS ALL ADD UP TO? WELL, RIGHT NOW DOWN AT THE INDIANA STATEHOUSE OUR LAWMAKERS ARE WORKING ON PROPOSALS THAT WOULD REQUIRE THESE MEDICAL BILLS TO BE A LOT MORE TRANSPARENT AND PERHAPS EVEN CUT DOWN ON YOUR COSTS. BUT OUR DESTINY GROWTH FOUND OUT WHEN YOU DIG IN YOU FIND OUT IT MIGHT NOT BE THAT CUT AND DRY. LET’S SAY YOU’RE HAVING A COLD ASK COULD BE DONE WHETHER THAT’S AT A HOSPITAL OR AN OUTPATIENT SURGERY CENTER YOU CAN BE BILLED AT THE SAME RATE. SOME LAWMAKERS SAY THAT SHOULD CHANGE OFF SITE LOCATION DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME SITUATION THE HOSPITAL OPEN 24 HOURS A DAY. STATE REPRESENTATIVE IN SMOLTZ SAYS THOSE OUTPATIENT SURGERY CENTERS AND OTHER MEDICAL BUILDINGS DON’T HAVE ANY ARE EITHER THEY DON’T HAVE A LITANY OF SERVICES THAT THE HOSPITAL HAS TO COVER. SO IT MAKES SENSE YOU PAID MORE BUT MORE AND YOU TAKE OFF LOCATION LESS SAVING YOU MONEY IN THE END. AND SOME EMPLOYER GROUPS LIKE THE IDEA THE INDIANA MANUFACTURING ASSOCIATION TOLD ITS MEMBERS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WOULD BE SAVED A YEAR THAT ARE CURRENTLY BEING OVERPAID FOR SERVICES THAT SHOULDN’T BE BILLED AT THE FULL SERVICE HOSPITAL RATE. BUT DR. TIM PUTNAM SAYS IT’S NOT THAT SIMPLE. THIS BILL SIGNIFICANTLY CUTS REVENUE TO MANY RURAL HOSPITALS, ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT HAVE ADAPTED TO THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY AND BUILT OFFSITE FACILITIES BECAUSE THEIR MAIN CAMPUS CAN ADAPT TO THEM. TAKE HIS HOSPITAL, FOR EXAMPLE, BUILT IN 1932. THE FACILITY ITSELF AND THE CAMPUS THAT IT DIDN’T ALLOW FOR EXPANSION OF THINGS THAT WE NEEDED LIKE PHYSICAL THERAPY, SPACE ENDOSCOPY SPACE CANCER CENTER TREATMENTS. SO THOSE WERE BUILT IN OFFSITE LOCATIONS. THE HEAD OF THE INDIAN HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION SAYS THE PROPOSAL COULD EVENTUALLY FOR SOME OF THOSE FACILITIES TO CLOSE. AND THEN QUITE HONESTLY IF THE FINANCIAL RAMIFICATIONS ARE AS SEVERE AS WE THINK THEY MIGHT BE, WE COULD SEE THE LOSS OF JOBS AND FEWER PROVIDERS OUT THERE TO SEE AND TREAT HOOSIERS. THE ISSUES ARE NOW UP FOR A VOTE IN THE FULL THAT COULD HAPPEN HERE AT THE STATE HOUSE AS EARLY AS MONDAY.
