Today we will do a flypast over the Thompsonbridge in Grave. Where during Market Garden a small group really made a difference. We are now at the place where it all happened
on September 17th 1944. Thompson and his group parachuted about 700mtrs from the bridge and decided to push trough. They advanced to the water pumping station but had to fall back due to heavy fire by the Germans. They waded through the “Raam” stream
and attacked the bunker on the south side. With a well aimed bazooka shot they blew off the gun on top of the bunker and were able to capture it. After that things went quickly, the other bunker and water pumping station were captured and the blasting-charges were removed from the bridge And with the guys from F company already at the other side, the bridge was succesfully captured.
