Wow Air COLLAPSES: The Icelandic airline has announced the end of operations (Image: GETTY) Passengers have been advised by the airline to check available flights with other airlines WOW Air had first postponed flights today before announcing it would be closing down after months of struggling with heavy debt The budget airline had ended talks with rival Icelandair last Sunday.WOW Air is the latest low-cost airline to go out of business as the European airline sector grapples with over-capacity and high fuel costs Related articles UK flights: Hand luggage rules on budget airlines WOW Air cancels ALL flights as airline collapses  WOW Air said in a statement: “WOW Air has ceased operation  “All WOW Air flights have been cancelled. “Passengers are advised to check available flights with other airlines  “Some airlines may offer flights at a reduced rate, so-called rescue fares, in light of the circumstances ”  Passengers are advised to check available flights with other airlinesWow Air It added: “Passengers may also be entitled to compensation fromWOW Air, including in accordance with European regulation on Passenger Rights  “In case of a bankruptcy, claims should be filed to the administrator/liquidator ” This week sawWOW Air cancel a string of flights, including 20 on Sunday, six on Monday and Tuesday and four on Wednesday  Multiple others were delayed. Wow Air COLLAPSES: The company flew between Iceland and the United States and Europe (Image: GETTY) The Keflavik-based airline had been struggling to find a backer in recent months, with a US investment group ending talks regarding rescuing the budget airline just last week  Then on Sunday, Icelandair announced the end of discussions with WOW Air. It said: “Icelandair Group has decided that its possible involvement in WOW Air’s operations, as announced on 20 March 2019, will not materialise  “Therefore, all discussions between the parties have ended.” Focused on low-cost travel across the Atlantic, WOW Air was founded in 2011 and used single-aisle planes to fly between Iceland and the United States and Europe  The airline flew a total of 3.5 million passengers in 2018.
